The Roberts family's business roots go back to the late 1940s when Howard Roberts, an Army Air Force aircraft electrical mechanic during World War II, started his commodities trading career. Howard fused his appreciation for machine powered data processing with his knowledge of markets. He bought his first computer in the late 1950s, at a time when computers came without software and mainframes could take up an entire room.
Over the course of the following 50 years, Howard and his family built a technologically advanced trading firm specializing in macroeconomically sensitive commodities with over $300 million in sales.
After working on the forefront of quantitative investing at T. Rowe Price, Michael Roberts, Howard's grandson, founded Roberts Capital Advisors ("RCA").
